Internet Marketing Terms

Welcome to the online world of Internet Marketing. Below you will find a few terms that you should make yourself familiar with before you even start the wonderful journey of Internet Marketing. I will continue to build upon this list and use it as a sort of glossary for other, more in-depth articles that are to come. I have a feeling this will grow rather quickly so once I get to a certain point I will organize everything into groups and subgroups so that you can find everything easier.

Affiliate Marketing:

Revenue sharing between online merchants and online publishers and/or sales people. With this type of marketing you don't need to have a product of your own, all you need to do is find a product you want to sell and join the merchants affiliate program, if they have one, and send traffic to their site.

Depending on the affiliate program you can make money off the click through, off the sale of the product, registrations or a hybrid model.

Banner Ad:

Graphical Web Advertising.

Click-Through:

The process of clicking on an online ad to its destination.

Click-Through Rate(CTR):

The average number of click-throughs per one hundred ad impressions, expressed as a percentage.

Impressions:

A single instance of an online ad being displayed on a viewers computer screen.

Page View:

The loading of a single page on a website.

Pay-Per-Click (PPC):

Online advertising model where payment is base off a click through. Payment is on a per click basis.

Site Stickiness:

The amount of time spent by an individual over a specific period of time. This number is usually expressed in hours and minutes.

Unique Visitors:

Individuals that have visited a site at least once, with-in a predetermined length of time.
