Gratitude. It changes everything.
When you learn to be thankful for everything in your life only THEN can you ever truly be happy.
Just like my previous post, I had no idea what I was going to write about until I opened the WordPress app on my phone and began to type.
Gratitude is a great way to start the day!
I’ve learned over the years that happiness doesn’t come from outside one’s self, it’s an internal decision that comes from being truly grateful for everything you have. That doesn’t mean you can’t hope for more. It just means that you have to learn how to be happy with what you have and where you are.
Being happy with what you have isn’t just about the things you accumilate in life, it’s your health, your relationships and even your spirituality. Being grateful doesn’t have to be reserved for some future you, it can happen now and it should.
Gratitude isn’t something that is achieved, you can’t work towards it. It’s something that you discover within yourself.
I understand that’s easier said than done. Which is why I like to think of gratitude as a snowball rolling down a hill. It may start small, but with enough room it could grow big enough to knock a building down.
So, start small. Find one or two things that you’re thankful for. They can be anything really. Like a good writing pen or a comfortable chair. Just remind yourself how thankful you are for that pen when you write or that chair when you’re relaxing in it.
Soon, it becomes a habit. Just keep looking for things to be thankful for and before you know it, you learn how to be happy with what you have. Yes, that does sound overly simplistic but it works. Learn to be mindful of your blessings. Many times they are the mundane things that you overlook, things that you don’t even notice until they’re gone.
I’ve been accused of being overly happy many times, even when things are tough. But that’s just me, I can’t help but see the bright side. I wasn’t born that way. I learned to see through the haze of misfortune and find my way no matter how dark things got.
It all starts with being grateful with what you have and learning that even though you’re looking for more YOU can be happy with what you’ve got.
