The passage of time shouldn’t be seen as the enemy. You shouldn’t see it as a march towards death, as something to be avoided at all costs, especially at the expense of your life.
As humans, we are finite. We all die, and one day the reaper will come for us all. I understand that may come across as a bit macabre and may be tough to think about, but understanding the difference between time as an ally and time as the enemy will have a profound impact on your life.
As humans, we put dying at the back of our minds and try to forget about it. The same could be said about our pasts which, of course, leaves us squarely in the present.
Don’t get me wrong. The present can be a beautiful place. And it should be, but if we are always living in the present, without an eye on the future, then there will come a day when we run out of presents in which to live and realize that our pasts could have been much better if only we had looked more towards the future while building our lives.
Don’t see the end of your time here as the enemy. Use it to motivate you. Use it to create urgency. Time is the greatest teacher of all as long as you pay her more attention and heed her passing. Learn how to dance with her, never shut her away, she isn’t forgiving but she is loving as long as you give her the attention she deserves.
