Success takes risk. Success means you’re willing to risk failure for future gain.

Creating success means that you run towards what scares you, not away from it. It means that you understand that in order to get what you want out of life, you have to put just as much back into it.

A Life is created. No, I’m not talking about the lower case life (although that was created too, but that’s for another post), but the uppercase one. I’m not talking about the life you were given, but rather the life that YOU make!

While I can’t define what your Life should be, there are four things to consider (I’ve written about them before HERE and spoke about them HERE):

  • Relationships
  • Spirituality
  • Health
  • Career

Each of these must be maintained to create lasting success. And that’s precisely why I said:

Success Isn’t For The Squeamish

Success, however YOU define it, isn’t for the faint of heart. There will always be that voice inside your head that tells you to slow down. That will tell you to back off. It will try and convince you that you never wanted those things in the first place.

Take a look around you. Can you honestly say that you’ve gotten everything out of life that you wanted? If you can HONESTLY say that, then good for you! However, if you’re like most people the answer is a quiet no.

Don’t go quietly into the night. DO NOT settle because fear has paralyzed your path forward. Here are a few ways to overcome your fear of pushing forward.

3 Ways To Combat The Fear of Failure

1. Become more aware of your thoughts.

Thoughts produce emotions. If you’re fearful then ask yourself why you’re feeling that way. Retrace your mental process and figure out what’s stopping you.

The fear you’re feeling isn’t about what WILL happen, it’s about what MIGHT happen. It’s the fear of the unknown that’s creating that knot in your stomach.

One of the best ways to overcome it is to be more aware of your thoughts and how they tie into how they make you feel. Many times the fears we feel are irrational. We tend to create worse case scenarios in our heads and then allow our thoughts to run wild with them. These are the paralyzing thoughts that keep you up at night. The very same thoughts that prevent you from taking the next step.

It’s keeping you frozen in place. Isn’t it time that you thaw out a bit?

So, dig into your fears. Find out what you’re really afraid of by asking yourself why you feel the way you do. Mentally retrace your thoughts and get to the real reason why. You’d be surprised at what you find.

2. Choose Better Thoughts

Now that you know the real reason behind why you’re fearful, it’s time to replace them with better thoughts.

If you’re afraid of being rejected, imagine what it would feel like if you weren’t. If you’re afraid of failing at starting your own business, imagine what it would be like if you were to succeed.

One of the best ways to overcome negative thoughts is by replacing them with they’re positive opposites.

3. Stop Procrastinating, Do

The single best way to combat fear is to prove it wrong. So, stop standing still and DO!

Your fear has kept you rooted in place long enough. Unshackle yourself from your worst case scenario mindset and take a step forward. Then another.

All it takes is a small amount of success to show your worries that they were all for nothing.

What are you afraid of? Let’s talk about them in the comment section below.
